She simmered it for six hours in a slow cooker; potatoes and carrots, with garlic and sour kraut.
Tasty…
i mean, this was far more tasty than i can ever remember.
And the corn beef tender…
Likewise, the news has been slow-cooking all day with the garlic of explosions, the sour kraut of chaos.
Sirens in Israel for days now.
New illegal immigrants still overwhelming the border.
Impeachment out; lawsuit in.
Simmering confusion…
Both here and abroad.
It’s all delectable in the course of a news day.
Tendered.
Yet, news can affect us like a hearty meal would.
News like today’s ladled out indigestion and plomped a rock in my stomach.
Frenetic worry.
Sweats… what did i eat?!

Soft to chew.
News i sipped between colorful videos of Verizon and Ford Ranger ads…
In my comfortable “dad” seat at home, it made me not feel like i’m in a war.
Sense is gone.
Though i see war happening on air between Israel and Hamas, between the President and Congress, between the Dems and the R’s, unless i am in the midst of it, meaning i’m a policy wonk, an Israeli soldier, a staff member of Congress, or lobbyist of some sort, i am not dusting up any dirt on my shoes in this war.
i can’t possibly know that those internal knots bundling up in my gut from the television reports — shuffled between comedy shows — are real.
But i can.
And that’s just it.
You can, too.
We all can.
The world of war, conflict, disagreement, name-calling, obstinance, affects us all.
